Billy Gene Wilson, In Teague, Texas on January 16th, 1930 it was a bitterly cold night and still holds the record cold temperature for that date.  The young woman was little more than a girl herself and had had a long hard labor because her pelvis had not spread like they should have.  At long last, toward morning the tiny child (only 6pounds) was born but was still in trouble.  You see, the umbilical cord was entangled around his neck.  Quick work by the good doctor and the child was crying as he should.  That tiny baby grew up to be a fine young man, president of his high school class, most popular, most handsome and well loved by family and friends.  He spent a short period in the Air Force and received a hardship discharge right before the Korean War began in 1950.  In January 1950 he went to work at SWBT Company, first as a lineman, and then went to Harwood Office in Dallas.  He took an early retirement in 1987, partly because of changes in the company.  In June of 1950 he met his future wife Pat, and at the time of his death they had just celebrated their 60th anniversary.  He and she liked to tease each other and said they had 25 years of wedded bliss.  He was a wonderful husband to Pat, a wonderful father to his four children, Kathi Hodges, Mike Wilson, Becky Schieler and Mary Hart; a wonderful grandfather to his 14 grandchildren and a wonderful great grandfather to his 11 great grandchildren.  He was loved by all the above and also his three sons-in-law James, Dennis and James, and daughter-in-law Patti.  He was 82 and will be missed most of all by his wife Pat and Lilly, his cat.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 1 at Browns Memorial Chapel with burial to follow at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday. George Wesley Woods, died peacefully in the early morning of Friday March 9, 2012, in Irving Texas. George was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 30, 1928, to Dr. Lewis Edgar Woods, and Hazel Ellen Chism, at Henry Ford Hospital where his father was in medical residency. Soon after, the family returned to Oklahoma, settling in Chickasha where they could be close to family, and here George was raised and received his schooling. Growing up, George developed seeds of interests that would follow him throughout his life, among which was his love and appreciation for music. Music was a big part of his family life and in addition to being the bugler for his Boy Scout Troop, he played the French Horn and lead the high school band, as drum major his junior and senior years. Chickasha was quite aviation minded since the family of famous aviator Wiley Post resided in nearby Maysville. He was exposed to airplanes before he could read, and that love of airplanes and aeronautics would stay with him both as a personal interest and throughout his working life. While in high school, George joined the Aviation Club, and took an aeronautics class taught by his high school math teacher, who also taught preflight aeronautics to cadets at the Navy base at Norman. It was in that class where he learned the principles of vectors and navigation, and was set on the path for a career in engineering and aeronautics. He won eight hours of flight training as top student in the class and accumulated about 25 hours of dual and solo flight time, subsequently logging enough hours to earn his pilots license. After graduation from high school in 1946, George attended the University of Oklahoma, where he completed a degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics, and was a member of the Sigma Pi Sigma Physics Society. He then spent a year at Tulane, exploring the idea of becoming a doctor, but returned to OU in 1951, where he returned to his love of physical science and completed a second degree with a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, was a member of Pi Tau Sigma honorary society and joined the American Society for Mechanical Engineers. Armed with his degrees, George went to work as an engineer for Phillips Petroleum in Goldsmith, Texas until he joined the Army, in May, 1953. He was stationed at Redstone Arsenal, in Huntsville, Alabama to and assigned to the 9330 Tech Service Unit, where he served as a manufacturing liaison engineer for the Missile Fabrication Group headed by Mr. Otto Karl Eisenhardt under the leadership of Werner von Braun. In 1955, George was released from active duty and went to work at Chance Vought Aircraft in the Servo Group supporting the XF8U-1 which had just had first flight at Edwards AFB.
